Summer Camps

Family-level & above Friends members receive $10 discounts on camps and $5 discounts on workshops. Early registration for Friends members begins April 9, 2013. Jedi Engineering with LEGOs
June 17-21, 9 am - noon
Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away and engineering principles right in front of them.  Defeat the Empire by designing and refining X-wings, R2-units, and settlements on far-flung edges of the galaxy.  Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and architectural projects such as energy catapults, shield generations and defense turrets. Ages 5-7, Fee: $154 residents; $192.50 nonresidents  
Master Jedi Engineering with LEGOs
June 17-21, 1 pm - 4 pm
The force is strong in this class.  Build complex machines and structures based on the best designs from a galaxy far, far away.  Projects include X-wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, settlements, and fortresses.  Play-well's Jedi camp reinforces key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, eccentric motion and more as students tap into the powerful forces of imagination and engineering. Hunters, Artists, and Tipi Makers
June 24-28, 9 am - noon or 1-4 pm
Immerse yourself in Plains Indian life of yesterday and today. Practice your bow and arrow skills, help build a real tipi with a Kiowa tribal elder, create colorful objects, play native games, and host your own mini-powwow. Morning or afternoon sessions are available. Ages 7 – 10, Fees: $145 residents, $181.25 nonresidents
Mech Madness, SNOT and other LEGO techniques you should know! workshop
June 29, 1 pm to 3 pm - One day workshop
Create your own upright mech using elements from a LEGO set you take home! Participants are shown mech building methods and SNOT (studs not on top) techniques, then challenged to create a unique design of their own. Expert builder Imagine Rigney will help guide the process and inspire with his own designs. Ages 8-11, Fees: $40 residents, $50 nonresidents
Pre-Engineering with LEGOs
July 8-12, 9 am to noon, or August 5-9, 9 am to noon
Let you imagination run wild with over 100,000 LEGO pieces!  Build engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieced to create your own unique design!  Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well Instructor. Bashem Bots with LEGOs
July 8-12,1 pm - 4 pm
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a massive motorized machine? Our Play-Well Engineering Instructors guide students in this advanced engineering camp, as they re-engineer standard vehicles into mechanized machines that can traverse challenging obstacles, battle against fellow bots, and take on colossal creations. Searchers, Seekers, and Settlers
July 15-19, 9 am to 1 pm, or July 22 - 26, 9 am to 1 pm
Embark on an adventure out West. Along the way, you’ll gather trinkets for your “possibles” travel sack, work with blacksmiths, pan for gold, play games, meet a mountain man, and have your own rendezvous. Held at Old Mill Park, 237 Pratt St., Longmont. Simple Machines: LEGO Technic workshop
July 20, 1 pm to 3 pm, One day workshop
Learn to make creations move! Build a wind-up motor and other awesome mechanisms using LEGO Technic elements. Then learn how to incorporate them into a vehicle you get to take home. Technic expert, Ian Davis will help guide participants and inspire with his own designs. Ages 8-11, Fees: $40 residents, $50 nonresidents
Artist-Book Making
July 29 - August 2, 1 pm to 4 pm
Enter the artistic world of book-making! Learn a variety of book binding techniques and materials. Let your imagination soar while you create your own pop-up story book, flip book and sketchbooks too. You will draw, paint, sew and build. Host your own art show on Friday! Green Engineering with LEGOs
August 5 -9, 1 pm to 4 pm
Design and build machines powered by alternative energy sources.  Race solar cars, build a wind-powered electrical generation facility, enter the human powered vehicle competition, and invent a machine powered by stored elastic strain energy.  Familiarity with LEGO Technic is desirable.  Ages 8-11, Fees: $154 residents; $192.50 nonresidents
