On August 7, 2009, Friends members and guests attended a private, early opening reception of the Colorado Pastel Society Mile High National Exhibition. Friends members mingled with artists from various Pastel Society’s as they previewed a juried exhibition with works from 50 of the finest pastel artists from all across the United States. Pastel has been used as an artistic medium since the 1700s. Edgar Degas (1834-1917) showed that pastel could be as expressive a medium as oil with his stunning Impressionist paintings. Modern pastel artists continue to explore this expressive and subtle medium in this national juried exhibit.
